Member of more than 20 Spanish Committees in the field of Photonics/Optics/Fiber Sensing and Instrumentation. Director of 21 PhD theses (8 with extraordinary awards) framed inside the Photonics/fiber sensing field. More than 150 R&D&i projects (+90with public and competitive funding) acting in +110 of them as manager, coordinator or principal researcher. More than 870 research publications (including 75 invited talks) and +25 patents closely related to optical and fiber techniques for sensors and instrumentations. Editor and co-author of four R&D international books. Co-Editor of several conference proceedings and magazines. Guest Editor of the Special Issues on Optical Fiber Sensors published on IEEE Sensor Journal (several Editions), on IEEE/OSA Journal of Lightwave Technology, on Optical Fiber Technology, Elsevier and MDPI. He was the Primary Guest Editor of the special issue on Photonics for Industry 4.0 for IEEE Selected Topics in Quantum Electronics (2021). He co-founded three new High Tech based companies from PEG: Cofounder of TELNOS, (2005), Empiric Technologies, SL (2010) and Sadiq Engineering (2011). Enabler of Edrónica: Technologies for unmanned vehicles (2016). Prof. José Miguel López-Higuera is recipient of numerous awards and recognitions, being some of the most recent: the Research Award of the Social Council of the University of Cantabria, 2014; The Lifetime Achievement Award by the EWOFS, Limerick, Ireland, May 2016; Invited talk at the Royal Academy of Medicine of Spain (May 14, 2019): The Photon in the medicine revolution of the XXI century; Cachupin Award given by the Magazine Vivir en Cantabria (2021); Hijo Predilecto and Gold Medal of the Ramales de la Victoria Council, (December 29, 2022).

He has 10 years of working experiences in reliability in electronic industry before joining Nanyang Technological University (NTU) as faculty member in 1996 till 2014. He then joined Chang Gung University, Taiwan and set up a research Center on Reliability Sciences and Technologies in Taiwan and acts as Center Director. He is Professor in Electronic Department of Chang Gung University, Honorary Chair Professor in Ming Chi University of Technology, Taiwan. He has published 400+ International Journal and Conference papers and giving 16 keynote talks and 70 invited talks in International Conferences and several tutorials in International Conferences. He holds 14 patents and 1 copyright on reliability software. He has written 8 books and 5 book chapters in the field of reliability. He is an Editor of Scientific Report, Nature Publishing Group, an Editor of IEEE TDMR, Series Editor of SpringerBrief in Reliability, Editor of MDPI Applied Research, Editor of Journal of Frontier of thin film, and Associate editor of Microelectronic Reliability. He is a member of the advisory panel of Elsevier Publishing Group. He is also in the committee of IEEE EDS Reliability Physics and the committee of IEEE EDS Master and Ph.D fellowship selection. He is also named as top 2% scientists in the world according to Stanford University research in 2021. He is a past chair of IEEE Singapore Section, senior member of IEEE and ASQ, Distinguish Lecturer of IEEE Electronic Device Society on reliability, Founding Chair of IEEE Nanotechnology Chapter - Singapore Section, Fellow of Institute of Engineers, Singapore, and Fellow of Singapore Quality Institute. He is the Founding Chair of IEEE International Conference on Nanoelectronics, General Chair of ANQ Congress 2014. He is a recipient of IEEE Region 10 Outstanding Volunteer Award in 2011. He was Guest Editor of International J. of Nanotechnology, Nano-research letter and Microelectronic Reliability. He is in the reviewer board of several International Journals such as Thin Solid Film, Microelectronic Reliability, various IEEE Transactions, Reliability Engineering and System Safety etc. He is the first individual recipient of Ishikawa-Kano Quality Award in Singapore in 2014. He is active in providing consultation to multi-national corporations on reliability. His research interests include reliability and failure physics modeling of electronic components and systems, finite element modeling of materials degradation, statistical modeling of engineering systems, nano-materials and devices reliability, and prognosis & health management of engineering system.

Ilgim Efeturk is one of the first full students of Turkey's first Department of Photonics which was founded in 2015 and serves undergraduate education since in 2019. She is one of the few founding members of the IZTECH Optics and Photonics Society (IZTECH-OPS), which was established on August 5, 2020 as an OPTICA (formerly OSA) Student Chapter and was the first official photonics student branch established within the institute. In addition to being Representative of IZTECH Department of Photonics and Representative of IZTECH Faculty of Science, she is the first female President of the Student Council in the history of her university, which was founded in 1992 and has 6500+ students. In addition to these, she is the Founder and President of IZTECH Quality Community, which was established in December, 2022, in order to disseminate the quality culture in higher education and R&D fields, internalize quality processes, increase the participation of students in the quality assurance system and to carry out studies in this field. She was awarded as one of the 20 Women Scholars to be supported financially and academically in 2022, selected worldwide by Optica (formerly OSA). She became the first Turkish student to be selected for this scholarship supported by major companies such as Google, Intel and Meta to empower the next generation of women leaders in optics and photonics; which accepts student applications from 36 countries and has a very difficult selection process due to its extraordinary application pool. In addition, she is one of the 53 female students and is the first & only photonics student supported academically under the WE-inTech Program which was officially launched by Arçelik Global in Turkey, Arctic in Romania, Defy Appliances in South Africa and Dawlance in Pakistan, and made available for the first time on a global scale to support women in new- generation research and development fields. Ilgim successfully completed her internship within the scope of the Eastern Anatolia Observatory in Erzurum, which hosts Turkey's largest and first NIR telescope with a diameter of 4 meters and she worked on the AO+RC+aO+DR optical performance of the DAG Telescope, especially on astrooptics which includes the adaptive optics & derotator system. She recently finished research internship on space robotics, and also conducts various studies on photonics and entrepreneurship & leadership within prestigious institutions in Turkey.

In 1990, Dr Díaz completed his doctorate on endocrine regulation of plasma membrane electrolyte transport in electrogenic extrarenal epithelia. After his doctorate, he moved to the Institute of Animal Physiology and Genetic Research in Cambridge as a postdoc to study mechanisms underlying electrical properties of different anion and cation channels involved in regulatory volume decrease. This research using patch-clamp electrophysiology and molecular biology techniques led to the functional association between volume-activated chloride channels and multidrug resistance P-glycoprotein (MDR). For these studies, in 1994 he was promoted to Senior Scientific Officer for the Cancer Research Campaign in Oxford. Back in Spain in 1994, he established the Laboratory of Membrane Physiology and Biophysics at the University of La Laguna in Spain. Since then, his group has studied different ion conductances, electrolyte and nutrient transporters, plasmalemmal ATPases and membrane receptors for neurotransmitters and hormones, including unexpected plasma membrane steroid receptors. One main interest of his laboratory are the (patho-)physiological roles and signaling mechanisms initiated by estrogens at the plasma membrane, including intracellular calcium imaging, which have been associated with neuroprotection. In January 2010, he became a full professor of Physiology and Biophysics. Nowadays he is active member of the editorial board of more than ten international journal devoted to basic and applied physiology research. In the period 2010-2019 he was the Specialty Chief Editor (SCE) of Frontiers in Membrane Physiology and Membrane Biophysics. In 2021 he was appointed to the board of the Instituto Universitario de Neurociencia (IUNE) from Universidad de La Laguna (Spain). During the last two decades, his laboratory has focused on two main research areas: 1) the study of cell membrane physicochemistry, particularly in lipid rafts microdomains from nerve cells, and their relation to membrane biophysics, membrane protein dynamics, and lipid-protein interactions, with emphasis on neurodegenerative diseases, and 2) On the development, synthesis, pharmacological assessment, and cellular imaging of novel fluorescent derivatives of membrane permeable and impermeable SERMs (Selective estrogen receptor modulators). Some of these compounds, such FLTX1, which are endowed with pure antiestrogenic activity and emerging laser dye properties, have been characterized for their ability to behave as gain media for spontaneous amplified laser emission (ASE), and random laser (RL) properties in vitro biological tissues of pathological interest (i.e. hormone-dependent cancers

I am Jilan S. I graduated from the Faculty of Science, Ain Shams University, Egypt, with a special focus on chemistry and a bachelor`s degree. After graduation, I got a diploma in laser applications in photochemistry and photobiology from NILES. I am interested in the field of photochemistry and photobiology, functional materials, solid-state materials, fuels materials and catalysis. Participating in a research project of “Determining the Phototoxicity of Modified TMDs-Folic Acid Nanohybrid on Breast Cancer and Hepatocellular Carcinoma Cell Lines” at NILES is significant for my future career as it will lead to a good start for my Ph.D. having broader exposure in the field of photochemistry and nanotechnology and bringing together faculty members, researchers and students from various disciplines to develop an interdisciplinary approach. Let me provide some background about the area of my thesis research. Photothermal nanoplatforms with good biocompatibility are greatly desired in the exploration of novel therapeutic methodologies. The surface coating of gold nanorods (Au NRs) by polypyrrole nanoparticles (PPy NPs) can be used not only in increasing the biocompatibility of Au NRs for treatment, but also in enhancing their photothermal efficiency. Polypyrrole-gold nanocomposites (PPy-Au NCs) were synthesized using the ex-situ polymerization method of the modified pyrrole monomer. This work demonstrated the synthesis of PPy-Au NCs and their cytotoxicity and photothermal effect, in comparison to Au NRs and PPy NPs. Additionally, histological analysis was performed to investigate the efficiency of PPy-Au NCs in reducing tumor progression and ablating Ehrlich carcinoma-bearing mice using polychromatic polarized low energy (PPLE) light source. PPLE light source could provide a safer and more practical approach to photothermal therapy (PTT). Therefore, we propose that PTT based on PPy-Au NCs as a photothermal agent and PPLE light as a power source can serve as a new effective treatment for solid tumors. My supervisors have always been satisfied with my performance. Importantly, my research work and thesis have been approved by Cairo University. Additionally, I have published an article entitled “Polypyrrole-Gold nanocomposites as a promising photothermal agent: Preparation, characterization and cytotoxicity study” in Spectrochemica Acta Journal by Elsevier. I am the corresponding author for this article and for another related article that is currently under consideration for publication by a journal.

Dr. Wu joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Wayne State University (WSU) as an Assistant Professor for Research in 1988; became a tenure- track Assistant Professor in 1990; Associate Professor in 1995, and a Professor in 1999. He was awarded the title of Charles DeVlieg Professor of Mechanical Engineering in 2002 – 2005; and was appointed by the Board of Governors to the rank of University Distinguished Professor in 2005. Dr. Wu holds the rank of Fellow in the Acoustical Society of America (ASA) and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and is a member of the Society for Automotive Engineering (SAE). Currently, Dr. Wu serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America (JASA), Managing Editor and Co-Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Theoretical and Computational Acoustics (JTCA). Dr. Wu has over 70 refereed journal articles, 20 U.S. and International Patents, and is the author of the textbook, “The Helmholtz Equation Least Squares Method for Acoustic Radiation and Reconstruction,” (Springer, 2015). Dr. Wu has mentored supervised more than 40 Ph.D. and MS students, who have won 24 the Best Student Papers Competitions at the professional conferences. Dr. Wu has received many honors and awards. The major ones include: Excellence in Teaching Award, WSU, 2003; Outstanding Graduate Mentor Award in Natural Sciences and Engineering, WSU, 2004; The Best Small Business Technology Award, the State of Michigan, 2004; The Asian Academy Hall of Fame, 2004; The Academy of Asian Leaders, 2004; The Inventor of the Year Award, WSU, in 2003, 2006; The Inaugural Alpha Award for Technology Innovation, Engineering Society of Detroit, 2006; Outstanding Faculty Advisory Board Service Award, WSU, 2010; Outstanding Faculty Service Award, WSU, 2011; The Inaugural Zhu Ke Zen Overseas Distinguished Alumni Award, Zhejiang University, 2011; The 2 nd Prize Winner for the invention at the Ignite Innovation Competition, “Cardio Sound Blood Pressure Meter,” the State of Michigan, 2018; and The 2018 Per Bruel Gold Medal, ASME, 2018 (the highest award in acoustics and noise control and the first Asian to receive this prestigious award issued by the ASME since its inception in 1987). Dr. Wu was a co-founder of SenSound, LLC in 2003. In 2015, he founded Signal-Wise, LLC, a private company to provide disruptive technologies to tackle complex noise and vibration issues. He was a co-founder of Cardiosounds LLC in 2018 to develop, manufacture, and sell technologies and products related to physiological monitoring or anything else the Act permits.
